France to Award Iran’s Pavarotti

A00905682.jpgIran’s Shahram Nazeri is receiving the French Chevalier des Arts et Lettres medal for his achievements in traditional Persian music. Accompanied by tar virtuoso Dariush Talayi, and percussionist Navid Khavari, the world famous Iranian vocalist will give an improvised performance at the ceremony.

According to ISNA News Agency the medal will be awarded to Nazeri by the French President’s top advisor.

“Art and culture guarantee world peace and cultural movements despite political disputes,” Nazeri said regarding the recent anti-Iran remarks by the French President, Sarkozy and his Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner.

Shahram Nazeri, has been dubbed the “Persian Nightingale” by the New York Times and “Iran’s Pavarotti” by the Christian Science Monitor.

Nazeri is slated to perform in London’s Barbican Festival October 15th.
