Tehran, Islamabad, Kabul Reiterate Stability and Security of Afghanistan

A03444022.jpgIranian, Afghan and Pakistani foreign ministers in a statement issued at the end of a trilateral meeting in the western city of Herat on Friday stressed the need for the establishment of security and stability in Afghanistan. The trilateral meeting in Herat took place ahead of a conference Saturday of foreign ministers from 10 regional countries in the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

During their meeting, the three top diplomats explored avenues for cooperation in the campaign against drug trafficking, terrorism and organized crime.

They further reiterated the necessity of stability and security for Afghanistan, saying that it plays a pivotal and crucial role in the economic and political development of the region.

The three ministers decided to find and utilize an official mechanism for cooperating in the aforesaid areas in a second trilateral meeting to be held in Pakistan late February on the sidelines of the third regional economic cooperation conference on Afghanistan.

They also agreed to arrange a summit of the heads of the three states in a bid to boost cooperation among the three neighboring countries.
