Iran Wins Asian Junior Men’s Weightlifting Title

Mohammad Zarei and Kia Qadami swooped six golds to help Iran celebrate the Asian junior men’s weightlifting title in advance in the Jordanian capital Amman Tuesday. In the 77kg class, Zarei scooped up three golds as he lifted 130kg and 160kg in snatch and clean and jerk attempts, Tehran Times reported.

The Kyrgyz lifter Taj Bayer finished runner-up with a total 257kg mark and Saeed Amin from Iraq took the bronze with a 254kg record.

Iran snatched three more gold medals in the 85kg category through Qadami who hoisted 137kg and 157kg.

The silver went to an Indian representative with a 286kg record and Taiwan’s lifter bagged bronze with a 253kg mark.

Iran had already won two golds, one silver, and two bronzes.

Majid Askari representing the country in the 50kg category hoisted 91kg and 107kg in his snatch and clean and jerk attempts, grabbing two golds and one silver with a total 198kg record and improving the continent’s mark by two kilograms.

Silver and bronze medals went to Vietnamese and Jordanian lifters who registered 197kg (92kg, 105kg) and 169kg (74kg, 95kg) marks respectively.

In the 56kg class, Jaber Behruzi from Iran bagged bronze medals in snatch and total contests as he locked 101kg and 118kg above his head.

The Kazakh participant took the gold medal with 109kg and 131kg marks and Vietnam’s weightlifter won the silver with 101kg and 126kg records
