Iran’s Parliament Speaker Gholam Ali Haddad Adel said here on Wednesday that Tehran is verifying a recent proposal raised by Saudi Arabia for the establishment of a consortium outside the Middle-East region to enrich uranium for Iran and other regional countries.“This proposal is under study, but it has not yet been officially introduced to the parliament,” Haddad Adel said, stressing that Tehran has not yet announced its view in this regard.
“Some of our colleagues, including the chairman of the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission have blasted a part of the proposal which calls for enrichment outside Iranian territories as they believe that enrichment outside Iran is not justified,” he added.
Asked to comment on a visit to Beijing by the US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Haddad Adel described China as a world power which may not comply with US demands and policies.
“China has an independent policy vis-Ã -vis the Untied States and the visit to China by the US defense secretary would not leave a negative impact on Iran-China ties,” the top legislative official underlined.
