Sri Lankan President Arrives in Tehran

A02859902.jpgSri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa, heading a high-ranking delegation arrived here in Tehran on Monday. Iran and Sri Lanka have been working as friends for a long time. Iran was once the number one purchaser of Sri Lanka tea.

During the three-day visit, Rajapaksa and his accompanying delegation are due to meet with Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and other senior officials.

President Rajapaksa is due to bring up the development plan of Sri Lanka Petroleum Refinery and purchase of fuel in his meetings with Iranian leaders. He is also due to bring up Uma Oya Development Project and other similar projects to get the cooperation of the Iranian government.

The discussion are also expected to touch on inviting investors from Iran to Sri Lanka, when the Government delegation meet with the respective groups during their stay.

Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama and several other State officials are also due to attend these meetings.
