TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Iran’s Parliament Speaker Gholam Ali Haddad Adel is slated to visit Egypt in February, rapporteur of the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said here on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an open session of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Kazem Jalali said that during the visit, which will take place at the invitation of the Egyptian parliament speaker, Haddad Adel is due to attend a meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The MP declined to reveal Haddad Adel’s itinerary in the Egypt trip, but meantime did not dismiss possibility for a meeting between the Iranian speaker and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
The visit is of crucial importance for both sides as it will be the first time after 29 years that a high-ranking Iranian official visits Egypt.
Tehran-Cairo relations severed after the assassination of the then Egyptian President Anvar Sadat in the 80s.
