Phibunsongkhram made the remarks in a meeting with Iran’s outgoing ambassador to Thailand Mohsen Pak Ayeen in Bangkok on Sunday, where the Thai official praised the diplomat for the long strides taken for the boosting of the two countries’ mutual cooperation during his mission.

He said that the Thai people feel kindness and affinity for the Iranians as they have a good image of the Iranian nation in their minds.

The Thai minister said his country welcomes expansion of mutual cooperation between the two states in all the different sectors, and added, “We believe that there reside good grounds for the boosting of cooperation and development of relations between Tehran and Bangkok.”

For his part, the Iranian envoy voiced pleasure in the two countries’ relations, and expressed the hope that Tehran-Bangkok ties would further expand in all the different political, economic and agricultural areas.

He further described expansion of ties with Asian states as among the main goals pursued by Iran’s foreign policies, and hoped that continued exchange of trade delegations would pave the way for an increase in Iran’s economic interactions with Asian states.

Elsewhere, Pak Ayeen reiterated the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear activities, and said, “Iran has acted very hectically and logically in building West’s confidence, but it believes that confidence-building is a two-way road and that both sides should undertake their responsibilities.”

He also blasted the West for practicing double standards, and described it as an “unfruitful” move, stressing that peace and justice should prevail in the Middle-East crisis and Iran’s nuclear issue.
