Privatization is a requirement: Rafsanjani

Currently privatization is a requirement in the country, Expediency Council Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said here on Tuesday. At a conference held for law graduates, Rafsanjani said experience has proved that delivering issues to people will help boost the quality of performing the tasks.
Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei issued a decree in July 2006 to privatize state industries by amending the Article 44 of the Constitution, which had banned private ownership of state institutions.
The Supreme Leader asked the Expediency Council to study and define the ways of implementing the Article 44 in order to prevent harms to national economy and stop the government from becoming “the great employer”, Rafsanjani said.
Currently, the extent to which Article 44 should be implemented is defined, “and we hope the executives would rightly follow the planned path,” and take privatization seriously, he noted.
