Iran, Syria Sign Gas Deal

A23431403.jpgTEHRAN (FNA) Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister Hossein Noqrekar Shirazi and Managing Director of Syrian Gas company Ali Abbas signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday for export of Iran’s gas o Syria by the end of 2009, it was announced on Tuesday.

According to IRNA, the MoU is a follow up of an agreement signed by Iran’s Oil Minister Gholam Hossein Nozari and his Syrian counterpart Sufian Allaw in September-October for the export of Iran’s gas to Syria via Turkey. Under the MoU, signed by Shirazi and Abbas, the volume of gas export to Syria will begin from three million cubic meters a day and will reach nine million cubic meters per day within three years.

At the signing ceremony, the Iranian deputy minister underlined that the two countries are determined to strengthen the all-out two-way ties. For his part, the Syrian minister expressed the hope that the MoU would be implemented in due course.

Following conclusion of the agreement, Iran and Syria will hold a trilateral meeting with Turkey in the coming months to review implementation of the project.
