“The West is depriving itself of the advantages of interacting with Iran by ignoring the country’s real status,” said Qalibaf in a meeting with the Swiss Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Michael Ambuhl in Davos said.

During the meeting, Ambuhl said that Switzerland was ready to actively participate in resolving Iran’s nuclear issue with the West.

Qalibaf, who is in Switzerland for the World Economic Forum (WEF), responded by referring to “the cordial relations the two countries have enjoyed in the past”. He also described Bern’s role in establishing global peace and coexistence as important.

“Regarding the nuclear issue, Switzerland has always shown interest in resolving the problems that exist between Iran and the West through peaceful means, an interest which we hope will become more practical,” said Tehran’s Mayor.

“This stance and the emphasis on discussions rather than confrontation have always been valuable to us,” he added.

Qalibaf, a presidential candidate in the last presidential election, emphasized that reaping the benefits of peaceful nuclear energy is an Iranian national desire shared by all groups in his country, regardless of political persuasions.
