Iran to Raise Gas Imports from Azerbaijan

A008708013.jpgTEHRAN (FNA)- Iran is ready to raise the volume of imported Azerbaijani gas at least by ten times, announced a source from the National Iranian Gas Company.

The demand for gas rose significantly in Iran due to freezing cold weather and the sudden cut of Turkmenistan’s gas exports to Iran last winter, and the country was, therefore, obliged to stop fuel exports to Turkey.

“Iran is interested in raising volume of Azeri gas imports. This means a significant rise, at least by 10 times”, the source reported.

According to Azerigaz, Azerbaijan supplies Nakhchivan with 1,000,000-1,200,000 cubic meters of gas daily via Iran and sells 1,000,000 cubic meters to Iran.

The current technical state of gas pipelines helps transport 2,000,000 cubic meters of gas to Iran per day.
