Fadlallah Views Iran’s Role in Lebanon as Positive

A04179182.jpgTEHRAN (FNA)- Top Shiite cleric Seyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah said Iran has played a “positive” role to help resolve Lebanon’s political crisis.

In a Thursday phone conversation with Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Mohammad Reza Sheibani, Fadlallah praised the “constructive mediation of Iran” to end the political turmoil in Lebanon while stressing the importance of greater unity in the Muslim world.
“Islamic countries should join forces and table solutions on how to best resolve issues related to the Muslim world,” Press TV’s Lebanon Bureau quoted Fadlallah as saying.

Sheibani claimed that through Iran’s mediation rival Lebanese factions were able to reach an understanding in the Qatari capital of Doha.

Rival Lebanese factions launched talks in Doha on Friday after the Arab League launched an initiative in the hope of defusing the crisis in the country.

Talks were reportedly on the brink of collapse as mediators struggled to break the deadlock.

The final agreement covers the formation of a new national unity government and electoral reforms. It also paves the way for the Lebanese Parliament to elect a new president by Sunday.
