”In war with Russia, Georgia will be fighting till the end. We have no other choice”

69_1.jpgChairman of Parliamentary Committee of Defense and Security, Givi Targamadze, does not rule out that Russia may launch war operations against Georgia.

Mr. Targamadze told journalists last night, “it is quite possible to expect such a scenario, since by starting a war with Georgia Moscow may want to provide the holding of Sochi Olympics in a peaceful environment”.

“If Russia launches war operations against our country, Tbilisi will respond with similar actions, since we will have no other choice,” Mr. Targamadze stated. He added, “In war with Russia, Georgia will be fighting till the end.”

Meanwhile NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer has called on Russia to withdraw its railroad troops from Georgia’s breakaway region of Abkhazia.

“These troops must be withdrawn, both Russia and Georgia should quickly enter an open high-level dialogue to deescalate the tensions,” Russian media quoted Mr. Scheffer as saying.

The reports that NATO was concerned with the bringing of Russian troops into Abkhazia have been received earlier on. Yesterday the NATO once again pointed at the need for withdrawal of the Russian troops.

“Here is the question: since Georgia’s territorial integrity is recognized, how can a foreign country dispatch its troops there?” the source in Brussels has said.

Georgia has regarded the bringing of additional Russian troops as intervention and attempt of annexation of its territories.

“Troops are not needed to restore railroads, unless a preparation for a military intervention is underway,” Georgia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze stated.
