Iran Updating Airport in Northwestern Province

A04000972.jpgTEHRAN (FNA)- The head of Khoy airport in Iran’s West Azarbayjan Province has said that nine infrastructure projects have been launched to provide the airport with up-to-date equipment.

In order to secure the full-scale development of Khoy airport, nine important projects are being implemented in the area, including the resurfacing of the runway, the construction of a petrol station for planes, the construction of a gas pipeline to the airport, the purchase of a cooling system for the safety of passengers, a new navigation system and modern equipment to improve the public area of the airport, provincial TV quoted the head of Khoy airport as saying.

Over 4mln dollars have been spent on these projects and 1m dollars of this money were allocated during the president’s visit to the province, the television said.

The implementation of these projects will allow planes to land even in bad weather conditions. These projects will be completed by the end of this year. Since the beginning of the current Iranian year (from 20 March 2008), 5,864 passengers carrying 46 tons of luggage have used this airport, the head of Khoy airport said.
