Hundreds of thousands of students have gathered outside the former US embassy in Tehran to mark the 29th anniversary of the embassy takeover.
Demonstrators have marched to commemorate the martyred students of the Islamic Revolution and to mark the 29th anniversary of the takeover of the US embassy in Tehran by a group of Iranian students, Press TV Correspondent Gisoo-Misha Ahmadi reported.
In the course of the embassy takeover, the Iranian students managed to find documents revealing the United States’ interference in the country’s internal affairs.
Schoolchildren, university students and political figures chanted anti-US and anti-Israeli slogans making their resentment of bullying by hegemonic powers and US foreign policies clear.
The anniversary of the US embassy takeover in Tehran is marked each year by demonstrations and rallies against the United States.
On November 4, 1979, a group of Iranian students took control of the US embassy in Tehran and detained 52 US diplomats.
The move was in protest at US interference in Iran’s internal affairs. Since the incident, Washington has imposed economic sanctions against the Islamic Republic and has had no official diplomatic relationship with Tehran.
“I am here because I want to defend my country and say that I will stand in front of America and will follow the way of our leader,” an Iranian student told Press TV.
Representatives from student groups and a number of political figures will deliver lectures during the demonstrations.
The Iranian nation throughout the country commemorates the occasion each year.
