Pristina – The Alliance for a New Kosovo party, AKR has asked Kosovo’s government to take Serbia to the International Court of Justice for alleged war crimes during the 1998-1999 conflict.
The Alliance for a New Kosovo, an opposition party led by businessman, Behgjet Pacolli, has asked Kosovo’s government prepares a file on war crimes and genocide committed by Serbia in Kosovo during that conflict.
The AKR emphasised that nine years after the end of war in Kosovo, the country’s institutions have not taken any action to hold Serbia to account at the International Court of Justice.
The indictment against Serbia for war crimes and genocide at the World Court would be a strong argument in favour of Kosovo’s independence, according to the party.
This would also provide compensation for the victims, the party argues.
Earlier this week, the International Court of Justice ruled it had the jurisdiction to hear Croatia’s case of genocide by Serbia during the 1991-1995 war, while Belgrade immediately announced it would file a countersuit of ethnic cleansing against Zagreb. Last year the court, however, rejected Bosnia and Herzegovina’s claims of genocide against Serbia.
