Cuban President Meets Iran’s Special Envoy

TEHRAN (FNA)- Cuban President Raul Castro Ruz met on Wednesday, in Havana, with Ali Akbar Mehrabian, Iranian President’s special envoy and Minister of Mines and Industries.

The Iranian official brought a salutation message for the Cuban Head of State and Revolution leader Fidel Castro on behalf Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Mehrabian further stressed friendship and solidarity of the Iranian government and people with Cuba.

Raul Castro asked the Iranian envoy to take kind regards to Iran’s President Ahmadinejad and underlined the Cuban government and people’s rejection of the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip.

He also elaborated on the actions adopted by the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) against the crimes perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinian people.

Israel waged war on the Gaza Strip on December 27 and began a “long-term” ground offensive on the Palestinian territory last Saturday.

Thus far, the Israeli aggression has killed 763 Palestinians and injured thousands of others – a large number of the casualties are civilians.

Raul Castro expressed his confidence that relations between Cuba and Iran will continue to strengthen under the principle of mutual respect and in the benefit of the two nations.

Also present at the meeting were Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque and deputy foreign minister Marcos Rodriguez, as well as Iran’s Ambassador to Cuba Mostafa Alaei.
