TEHRAN (FNA)- Egypt officially rejected unloading of an estimated 2,000 tons of medical and food supplies for the crisis-stricken people in Gaza, and said it would not issue the required permit for the Iranian ship to approach the Gaza Strip, a source said on Wednesday.
The secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) had also requested Cairo to allow the Iranian cargo ship to carry aids to Gaza through the city of El Arish.
“The OIC secretariat’s efforts to unload Iran’s aid cargo for the people of Gaza yielded no fruit due to the Egyptian officials’ opposition,” an informed source told FNA.
“Unfortunately Egyptians officially announced their opposition,” the source who was calling from the Saudi city of Jeddah added, viewing the move by Egypt as collaboration with the Zionist regime.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry Tuesday summoned the head of Egypt’s interests section in Tehran over stopping the cargo ship, carrying Iran’s aids to Gaza.
During the meeting with Amr Ahmed A. Meguid El Zayat, the Iranian foreign ministry official voiced Tehran’s strong protest against the Egyptian government’s reluctance to issue the necessary permits for the Iranian ship to approach the Gaza Strip to deliver its aid supply to the people of Gaza.
Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Mahmoud Ahmadi Bighash told FNA earlier today that Iran is conferring with the Egyptian government on opening Rafah border crossing and paving the way for the Iranian aid vessel to dock in Gaza coast.
