After a meeting with President Danilo Turk, Pahor declined to comment Rehn’s suggestion on a joint statement between Croatia and Slovenia.
Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor on Wednesday refused to comment the possibility of Croatia and Slovenia signing a joint statement that would confirm that no document signed after the independence of the two countries prejudged the border between the two countries.
Talks on borders will be held only at the level of ministers
Asked by reporters, after his meeting with President Danilo Turk, to comment the proposal which the EU’s enlargement commissioner, Olli Rehn, put forward to Croatian and Slovenian foreign ministers Gordan Jandrokovic and Samuel Zbogar at a meeting on Tuesday, Pahor declined to make any statement on the issue.
Pahor spoke with Turk about national reconciliation and the law on burial sites from World War Two and in its wake.
The prime minister explained that the issues about mediation on the border and the possible unblocking of Croatia’s accession negotiations were being held at a ministerial level and he had nothing to add to his prior statements about the subject.
Still, he added that he hoped that a solution would be found quickly and that his first, last month’s meeting with Croatia’s Prime Minister Ivo Sanader in Mokrice had deepened faith between the two countries.
Further talks about the border to follow
On Tuesday, Zbogar, his Croatian counterpart Gordan Jandrokovic and Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn failed to agree on the mandate of the EU mediators, led by former Finnish President and Nobel Peace Prize winner Martti Ahtisaari.
