Tor Arne Martinsen, the principal of the Celeburg School of Fredrikstad municipality in Norway, yesterday received the Honorary Citizen of Mitrovica Award for his contribution given to Kosovo and the Mitrovica municipality, particularly in the field of education.
The members of the Mitrovica Municipality Assembly granted the Honorary Citizen of Mitrovica Award to the Norwegian educator and humanist for his continuous contribution to the city.
At the ceremony were also present Kosovo’s Deputy Education and Science Minister, Agim Hyseni, Norway’s Ambassador to the Republic of Kosovo, Svere Johan Kvale, the representatives of Norwegian municipality of Fredrkistad and many Norwegian students.
The award was handed by Mitrovica’s mayor, Bajram Rexhepi, who expressed the motive of this award as an initiative which was taken by the Board Members of the Elementary and Middle School “Ismail Qemali” in Mitrovica. The Ismail Qemali school was twinned with the Norwegian school where the laureate, school principal Tor Arne Martinsen works.
Martisen’s contribution dates since 2001. He has accomplished many humanitarian tasks aiding many Kosovar citizens in Mitrovica. His establishment of grassroots for building and cultivation of friendship between Kosovo and Norway, cultural and education exchanges, where many students of Mitrovica and Fredrikstad had an opportunity to share their social, cultural, and education values.
The laureate of this award, Tor Arne Martisan, in his speech, expressed his gratitude saying that he feels pleased and proud for his dedication given to Kosovo and its town Mitrovica, and will certainly have new assignments and obligation in assisting Kosovar education in other parts of the country.
At the end of the ceremony, a rich artistic-cultural program was organized by the pupils of the Islam Qemali school in honor of the guests from Norway.
