CHISINAU, April 5 (- The ruling Party of Communists leads in the Moldovan parliament election with 45.5% of votes, according to exit polls conducted at 220 polling stations. A total of 18,000 voters were polled.
The Liberal Party and the Liberal Democratic Party rank second, each with 13.9%, while the Alliance Our Moldova goes third with 10% of votes.
No other parties passed the 6% threshold necessary for winning parliament seats, judging by exit polls.
Moldova is a parliamentary republic, in which the parliament elects the president. The Party of Communists may gain 55 out of 101 parliament seats, the Liberal Democratic and Liberal Parties may gain 17 seats each, and Our Moldova may gain 12 seats.
The president can be elected by over 61 votes, so the Party of Communists will have to reach an agreement with the opposition. If the president is not elected in three votes, the parliament will be dismissed.
“Poll results show that the ruling Party of Communists has won the election for the third time,” head of the Communists’ election staff Mark Tcaciuc said.
