Kosovo leaders along with authorities from the US Embassy will be planting chestnut trees in Pristina’s city park today, to mark ‘International Earth day’.
Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy in Pristina, Thomas Yazgerdi, Kosovo’s Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, Kosovo’s President Fatmir Sejdiu, Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Mahir Yagcilar, and the mayor of Pristina, Isa Mustafa, will all gather today at the city park to plant a tree each, initiating the campaign “one citizen, one plant”, as a means of elevating environmental awareness in the community.
Thaci began planting trees a day before, outside the grounds of the University dormitories in Pristina.
“We are beginning here at the student centre because the youth are the ones who have the most hope and faith in the future of Kosovo”, he said.
This event was a joint initiative of the US Embassy in Pristina, the Kosovo United States Alumni Organization and the Municipality of Pristina.
