Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Hashim Thaci, has urged Kosovo citizens, particularly ethnic Serbs, to return to Kosovo.
Along with the Minister for Return and Communities in Kosovo’s government, Sasa Rasic, Thaci invited Serbs to return to Kosovo and re-start their lives in the “Kosovar system of living”.
“The government of the Republic of Kosovo will continue to fully accomplish its responsibilities deriving from Ahtisaari’s package and Kosovo’s Constitution but also from our vision to build a new Kosovo that will be the homeland for all its citizens,” Thaci said.
The Prime Minister invited the Serbian government and authorities in Belgrade to support and facilitate the return of the Serbs to their homes in Kosovo.
Minister Rasic declared that there was a will in the Kosovo government to support the return of the Serbs. “I ask all communities, particularly the Serbs, to return to Kosovo and to stay here,” he said.
Some 200,000 Serbs and other minorities are reported to have fled Kosovo after the end of conflict between local Albanians and Serbia.
