Kosovo asks Interpol to dismiss Serbian arrest warrants

PRISTINA, Kosovo

Interior Minister Zenun Pajaziti urged Interpol Friday (May 8th) not to implement Serbia’s arrest warrants for Kosovo’s citizens. He was referring to Colombia’s move Wednesday to expel former Kosovo Prime Minister Agim Ceku, who is wanted by Serbia for alleged war crimes.

Pajaziti sent a letter to Interpol and its member states asking them to prevent this in the future, said Fisnik Rexhepi, Pajaziti’s adviser. “Serbia has no jurisdiction over the Republic of Kosovo and its citizens,” he said.

Belgrade says Ceku, a former commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army, is responsible for the killings of 669 Serbs and 18 other non-Albanians during the 1998-1999 conflict.
