Albania: Opposition boycotts partial elections

The largest boycott was registered yesterday at the partial elections held in Albania.

The opposition’s boycott, led by the Socialists caused a 20% turnout at the elections. Mayor-candidates from the Democratic Party won the elections in the five municipalities.

Partial local elections were held after five mayors were elected as parliamentarians at the parliamentary elections June 28, which caused Socialists to boycott the parliament.

Socialist Movement for Integration Party and New Communist Party were the other two parties that participated in the elections.
