Minister of Foreign Affairs Rumyana Zheleva, who is on a 3-day visit to Washington, was received yesterday by Richard Morningstar, the US Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy, and Jonathan Elkind from the United States Department of Energy.
The three talked on energy projects in Bulgaria, US-Bulgarian energy cooperation and the Southeastern European pipeline network. Zheleva has pointed out that Nabucco was on Bulgaria’s priority list.
Richard Morningstar complemented Sofia for the plans to reduce its energy dependence, but made it clear the US companies very much relied on transparency and fair competition in Bulgaria. In his words, regional cooperation was of crucial importance.
In the interim, it emerged that Bulgarian PM Borisov and US President Obama could meet by the end of 2009.
