President of European Council to visit Bucharest

President of the European Council Herman van Rompuy is expected to arrive in Bucharest on Monday, to meet the head of the Romanian state Traian Basescu. The meeting will take place at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace.

This is Rompuy’s first visit to Bucharest since taking over.

According to the presidential administration, the meeting between the two high officials represents an opportunity to exchange views on such topics on the current European agenda as the economic situation in the EU, the main issues to be discussed at the upcoming informal meeting of the EU heads of state and government in Brussels, on February 11, the Spring European Council, due in March this year, as well as mode of operation of the new institution that is the permanent presidency of the European Council.

Moreover, President Traian Basescu will present Rompuy with Romania’s agenda of priorities in European affairs.
