Final demarcation stage on Moldovan-Ukrainian state border

On January 29, the Moldovan and Ukrainian foreign ministers set up the first intermediary sign on the central sector of the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border.

The event took place in Velika Kisnitsa village of Iampol district in Vinitsa region. Representatives of the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine took part in the event.

A statement issued by Iurie Leanca and Piotr Poroshenko on this occasion says that Moldova and Ukraine agreed to start delimiting the central sector of the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border following an improvement in the relations between the two countries. The placement of the first intermediary border guards’ sign marks the beginning of the last demarcation stage.

The event also represents an important contribution to the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, by respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova. In this connection, the parties stressed the necessity of resuming the talks in the 5+2 format as soon as possible.

In the end, the statement says that the maintenance of the efficient interstate dialogue established in 2009 will enable to transform the Moldovan-Ukrainian relations into a real strategic partnership.
