Slovakia won’t recognize Kosovo

Slovakia will not change its stand on recognition of Kosovo, Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčak has told Kosovo Albanian officials.

“We will not recognize it (Kosovo) and this remains our stand,” Lajčak said after a meeting with Skender Hyseni, appointed by the government in Priština as its foreign minister, late on Thursday.

Lajčak, who is scheduled to hold a news conference in Čaglavica today, clarified that the aim of his visit to Kosovo is to give support to the process of regional cooperation.

“We would like to see real communication between Priština and Belgrade and, at the same time, we want the Balkans to become part of the European Union,” said Lajčak.

He also met with the Kosovo Albanian president and prime minister, Fatmir Sejdiu and Hashim Thaci.
