Slovenia to stage referendum on border deal with Croatia

Slovenian Parliament on Monday is expected to approve the motion for referendum on border arbitration agreement between Slovenia and Croatia.

The referendum is likely to be held on June 6, and the preparations will get under way as soon as the parliament’s decision is published I the official gazette, most probably on May 5.

The latest opinion polls show that 47-50 percent of voters support the arbitration deal, while 30-35.5 percent would vote against it.

The agreement was signed last year by Prime Ministers of Slovenia and Croatia – Borut Pahor and Jadranka Kosor. The agreement unblocked Croatia’s EU membership talks.
