The European Union must assume its role in the process of resolution of name dispute between Macedonia and Greece to ensure an accelerated EU integration of the entire region, Slovenian MEP Jelko Kacin said.
Kacin made the remarks at the meeting with EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule. Kacin also reaffirmed his stance that Macedonia should be the next among the Western Balkan countries to embark on EU accession talks.
He underscored that Macedonia has been waiting for a starting date of its EU membership talks for five years.
“I welcome the start of Iceland’s EU accession talks, but Iceland is in the West. And now we need to proceed with the bloc’s enlargement toward the Southeastern Europe,” Kacin said.
Kacin-Fule meeting took place in Strasbourg, on the sidelines of the European Parliament session, Kacin’s Cabinet said, adding that the meeting was quite lengthy and constructive.
