UN Security Council to discuss situation in Kosovo

Following a deterioration in the situation in the north of Kosovo, the UN Security Council is set to take up the matter at its meeting today. Serbian President Boris Tadic and the head of the UN Mission in Kosovo Lamberto Zannier are planning to attend the session in New York, while Kosovo Foreign Minister Skender Hyseni has asked to take part.

The discussion on the situation in Kosovo was scheduled at Serbia’s request following an armed attack in north Mitrovica on July 2, local media report.

Serbia’s Tadic has said that he will attend the session, while Kosovo’s Foreign Minister Skender Hyseni, on an official visit to Poland on July 5, sent a letter to the UN Security Council asking to take part in the urgent meeting.
