Romania’s government has 6 new ministers

Six new Romanian ministers have been sworn-in in front of Romanian President Traian Basescu. The move on Friday came a day after Romania’s Prime Minister Emil Boc announced a reshuffle was imminent and would see the departure of several key ministers, as a response to the cabinet’s widespread unpopularity.

Basescu said that the government had to continue with austerity measures aimed at reducing public costs and also called for solidarity among politicians to win the public’s trust for the task.

The Finance, Economy, Labour, Agriculture, Transport and Communications ministers were all replaced by lower-ranking members of the ruling Liberal Democrat Party (PDL).
