EU officials hopeful legislative elections in Moldova will be free and fair

Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany Werner Hoyer and Minister of State for Europe at the British Foreign Ministry David Lidington, who are on an official visit to Moldova, voiced hope the early parliamentary elections will be free and fair, Info-Prim Neo reports.

“I hope a democratic government will be chosen after the elections, which will continue the reforms launched during the last year and will ensure Moldova’s and Moldovans’ welfare in the future,” David Lidington said.

Werner Hoyer said that every people has the right to elect its administration and no politician can tell them how to make this choice.

The officials said the EU approves of the progress made in implementing the reforms promoted by the new government of Moldova, stressing results were achieved in a rather short period of time.

The two ministers stated the talks on the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU and on the creation of a deep and comprehensive free trade area with the EU show that Moldova enjoys the EU’s trust.
