Bulgarian PM: Serbia, Croatia should decide on Belene NPP participation by the end of the week

Serbia and Croatia should officially decide whether they will take part in the Belene NPP project by the end of the week, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said in Bucharest, BNR reports.

Borisov added that Bulgaria should decide on the quotas allocation of the construction works until the visit of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to Bulgaria.

In the frames of the Danube Strategy summit in Bucharest Boyko Borisov met with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso. Borisov thanked Barroso for the personal help he renders to Bulgaria and not only to our country but also to the rest of the countries that face certain difficulties with the EU funds absorption. Borisov also commented that thanks to Barroso’s help Bulgaria now has sufficient administrative capacity for this and the situation has seriously improved. The Bulgarian prime minister commented further that Barroso was one of the persons who managed to strengthen the participation of the European Investment Bank (EIB) in the EU funds absorption and the financing of projects in Bulgaria, giving examples with the construction of the waste processing plant and infrastructure projects, especially the motorways.

Boyko Borisov added that during his meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban the two have discussed country’s accession in the Schengen area. In Borisov’s words, Orban believes that Bulgaria has met the criteria.
