Romania hopes to have a Schengen decision during the Hungarian Presidency of the EU, which ends in June

Romania wants to enter the Schengen zone in 2011 and expects the European Council to reach a decision on its bid during the Hungarian Presidency of the EU, which ends in June.

“We are waiting for the newest technical assessment of our Bulgarian neighbors in March and we would like to receive a constructive decision on behalf of the European Council by the end of the Hungarian Presidency,” Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi said during a press conference.

He spoke after meeting with Finland’s Minister of Migration and European Affairs Astrid Thors, who is currently on a visit to Romania.
