Romania is ready to enter the Schengen Agreement, according to the European Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmstrom.
“As far as Schengen goes, the assessments show that Romania has covered all technical criteria for accession,” Malmstrom stated on Thursday in Bucharest. She urged the EU member states to express precisely the measures they want Romania to implement, so that the country can know how to win their confidence.
The Commissioner added that she is pleased with the recent arrests of Customs employees and officials on corruption allegations, as she believed that shows the country’s willingness to fight with the issue.
