PACE is expected to approve report on Moldova in 2012

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will approve the Report on Moldova in about mid-2012, Polish parliamentarian Piotr Wach, a PACE Co-Rapporteur for the monitoring of the obligations and commitments of Moldova said today.

Wach explained that the report approval procedure is fairly lengthy: first it is necessary to prepare the Report, hear it and take into account the Moldovan side’s opinion. Then it is necessary to send the document to PACE for approval, after which – to the Moldovan Parliament for approval, too.

Piotr Wach said Moldova may proceed to the post-monitoring stage in late 2012, bearing in mind that according to preliminary monitoring data, Moldova has achieved a progress.

In his words, Moldova is fulfilling its commitments, including ones in the human rights area. The Moldovan authorities have stated readiness to implement reforms and move on. The republic attaches importance to observing the rights, living conditions and possibilities for ethnic minorities, e.g. the Gagauzes.
