Almost half of Croats are against EU membership

Croatia has started a final offensive to enter the EU in 2011. The European Commission (EC) said that the pre-accession talks could be finalised, if the country steps up its efforts in the fight against corruption and the detention of war criminals.

Meanwhile, the Croats kicked off their own offensive against the EU. Almost half of the Croatian citizens do not back country’s accession in the Union. Last week, around 10,000 people went out on the streets, asking for new elections. The protesters burnt an EU flag, which is a precedent for a member state candidate.

The Croats do not consider the EU a rescuer or a source for money but rather a threat.
