Catherine Ashton praises Kosovo-Serbia agreement

The EU chief of foreign policy tells Kosovo’s Hashim Thaci that the recent agreement reached between Kosovo and Serbia should be put into practice as soon as possible.

Two days after Kosovo and Serbia reached an agreement on some working issues through EU mediation, Catherine Ashton praised Kosovo reaching the first agreement with Serbia.

“I am looking forward to the swift implementation of these agreements,” she told Prime Minister Hashim Thaci in Brussels on Monday. “I also hope that the dialogue will very soon give further results, in areas like telecoms, cadastre records, customs stamps and energy.

Kosovo and Serbia agreed last Saturday on freedom of movement, the civil registry and mutual acceptance of university diplomas after several round of discussions held since March 2011, mediated by the EU.

“Both sides gain a lot,” said Ashton.
