Serbia, Montenegro agreed to improve cooperation

The prime ministers of Montenegro and Serbia have agreed that both countries share a common goal of EU membership, and pledged to support each other towards that end.

The announcement came during the first official visit of Montenegrin Prime Minister Igor Luksic to Belgrade on Wednesday.

At a joint press conference, Luksic and his Serbian counterpart, Mirko Cvetkovic, said the primary purpose of their meeting was to strengthen relations between the two countries. Along with European integration, they discussed possible cooperation on economic and infrastructure projects.

In regard to European integration, Cvetkovic said that Serbia fully supports Montenegro’s EU path, and welcomed Podgorica’s support in Belgrade’s efforts to obtain EU candidate status and have a date set for EU accession talks by the end of the year.
