France extradited Milorad Momic to Croatia for 1991 war crimes allegations

On September 2 France extradited war crimes suspect Milorad Momic to Croatia, the Croatian Interior Ministry said.

Momic was arrested in France on a warrant issued by Interpol in February 2011, Aleksandra Ljuba.

Croatia requested Momic’s extradition as he is charged with of the murder of one Croatian civilian and torture of several villagers in Berak, eastern Croatia, in 1991.

Momic was reportedly granted French citizenship in 2006 after he married a French woman and changed his name to Guy Monier.

France, which does not extradite its citizens to other countries, decided to extradite Momic because the said crimes were allegedly committed at the time Momic did not have French citizenship, according to AFP.
