Rule of Law is crucial in Montenegro’s talks with EU, says the country’s FM

Montenegro’s foreign minister says that establishment of the rule of law will be the priority as Podgorica forms its negotiating team for accession talks with the EU.

“The priority is to establish a negotiating structure and a working group that will stick to the rule of law,” said Foreign Minister Milan Rocen.

He said the government planned to wrap up planning for the structure of the negotiations by June. The European Union decided in December last year that Montenegro could begin accession negotiations in June 2012 if it fulfilled certain conditions regarding the rule of law.

Rocen also said that a European Commission delegation will visit Podgorica on January 23 and 24 and discuss the accession chapters on the rule of law with Montenegrin officials.
