UN expert says Bulgaria should recognise Macedonian minority

Bulgaria’s government should respect the right of ethnic self-determination, as well as the right of free unification of the members of the Macedonian minority and the Bulgarian Mohammedan in the country, said Rita Isaak, independent expert with the UN.

Isaak visited Bulgaria last year to examine the situation around the minorities in the country. In a report published last month Isaak recommends introducing the Macedonian language in the Bulgarian educational system. In his words, Bulgaria should think about bilingual educational system in the places with Macedonian minorities.
