Serbia will not hold elections in Kosovo

Serbia’s government has decided to exclude its former province of Kosovo from the next elections.

“The EU course has prevailed,” a cabinet source said, referring to Brussels’ stated desire for Serbia not to try holding polls in Kosovo.

On Monday, Oliver Ivanovic, State Secretary in the Serbian Ministry for Kosovo, said it would be impossible to hold the elections there without first adopting a special law.

“In the present circumstances, the adoption of such a law would be inconsistent with the constitution,” Ivanovic said.
