Candidates List For Bosnia Polls Published

The Central Electoral Commission published the final list of candidates for the upcoming local elections scheduled for October 7.More than 30,000 individuals have been registered as candidates for local or municipal elections in Bosnia’s two entities, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska, the Central Electoral Commission, CIK, announced on August 21.In the elections, citizens will choose mayors for 139 municipalities and councilors for 78 municipal councils in the Federation entity and 61 councils in Republika Srpska and the District of Brcko.

The total of 30,351 candidates come from 84 political parties, 59 coalitions, 330 independent candidates and 16 lists of independent candidates.

The exception for the local elections concerns the southern town of Mostar, where a decision of the Constitutional Court in the Federation has ruled that the electoral system must be changed.

The CEC said on Tuesday that elections in Mostar would be held separately when the conditions have been met.

At the beginning of the year it was stated that the local elections would cost around 6 million euro, which would be partly provided for from the state budget.
