Greece Apologizes for Albanian Flag Incident

The Greek foreign minister has apologised to his Albanian counterpart after the country’s flag was hung upside down during a joint press conference on Wednesday in Athens.“Greek minister Dimitris Avramopulos called Albanian foreign minister Edmond Panariti and apologised for this unfortunate protocol incident,” the Albanian foreign ministry said in a statement on Thursday. “Avramopulos underlined that this incident would not be repeated and would not overshadow Panariti’s successful visit in Greece.”

Pictures of the press conference with the upside down flag caused a stir in Tirana.

Panariti’s official visit to Athens also included talks with Greek President Karolos Papulias and representatives of the Albanian community. He described the meetings as constructive and sincere.
