Dodik: Republika Srpska Will Be Independent

Milorad Dodik, the President of Republika Srpska, said that the Bosnian Serb entity is the only self-sustaining part of Bosnia and Herzegovina and will eventually emerge as an independent country.Dodik believes that Republika Srpska is capable of becoming an independent country.

“Nobody can prevent us from holding a referendum. We never gave up on it, but everything has its timing,” Dodik told the Serbian daily newspaper Vecernje Novosti.

He added that Kosovo, which declared its independence from Serbia in 2008, got limited support from the international community and it does not need to sit in the UN.

“We [Republika Srpska] would not need that [the UN seat] either,” Dodik noted.

Kosovo is recognised by 91 out of 193 UN member states.

He believes that Republika Srpska would be capable of functioning as an independent state since, as he said, it is the only self-sustainable community in Bosnia-Herzegovina in economic, political and every other sense.

“Nobody else can say that, neither the Federation [Croat-Bosniak entity] nor Bosnia and Herzegovina. They are on ‘IV’ and depend on the help of the international community,” Dodik told the newspaper.

According to him, Republika Srpska has foreign investments worth 2 billion euro – the amount no country in the region has.

“Let them deny it if I am wrong. We have plenty to show because we have carried out numerous projects,” he said, adding that people in Bosnia understand that the Republika Srpska has become an unavoidable factor in the decision-making in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
