Albania’s President, Bujar Nishani, has appointed on Monday the head of the High Inspectorate for the Declaration and Audit of Assets, HIDAA, Adriatik Llalla, as Albania’s new general prosecutor.Nishani said in a memo attached to the decree that the decisive factor was Llalla’s experience and his bipartisan election as the head of the agency.
“I valued his past experience as part of the prosecutor’s office and his election as the head of HIDAA by parliament on a consensual basis,” the president said.
The timing of the presidential decree remains controversial with the opposition parties and constitutional experts maintaining that the mandate of outgoing prosecutor, Ina Rama, ends in April 2013.
Llalla was elected as the head of HIDAA in October 2008. A former prosecutor, Llalla has served before as the deputy head of Tirana’s prosecutors office, before his election as the head of asset disclosure agency.
It is expected that his nomination will be voted in the upcoming parliamentary session later this week.
