Bosnia Burns Seized Drugs Worth €10 Million

Security Ministry organises destruction of a ton of various narcotics worth 10 million euro in the first organized mass destruction of narcotics since the war.Around a ton of different narcotics, mostly marijuana and heroin, were burned in incinerators in the southeastern town of Gacko on December 13.

Prior to destruction, Federation entity Police checked the total amount of narcotics which was packed in 328 plastic bags.

The mass burning of seized drugs was organized by Bosnia’s Security Ministry and the State Investigative and Protection Agency, SIPA, which gathered up narcotics seized in more than 60 cases by various courts.

“The estimate is that the street value of the destroyed narcotics is 20 million KM [10 million euro],” Goran Zubac, director of SIPA, said.

Gacko’s application to carry out the destruction of the drugs won praise from Bosnia’s Security Minister, Fahrudin Radoncic.

“This action restores trust in the rule of law,” he said. “This can mean a start of new year, one spent fighting against crime and systematic corruption.”

Bosnia adopted new rules on destroying confiscated narcotics in February, which let courts decice on their destruction.
